THE MONTH OF MAY
by Lady Captain - 15:27 on 08 June 2019
The month of May started with our 1st Social Event of the year “Northern Soul Night” A friend of Ann’s offered to host the evening without a charge and Ann provided the food. The Northern Soul music was played for the first half of the evening but after the food had been served our resident Vocalist (Stu Corbett) with the assistance of Ken (Bel’s brother) upped the tempo & a good night was had by all. The evening raised £170 for our charity.
The Friendship Trophy came next on 6th May. 12 Ladies entered with the winners being Sally & Cathy with 37 points with Kim & Janet F being the runners up with 32 on countback from Bel & Mel. Although the weather was chilly it was sunny & dry, which makes a change. We all enjoyed Afternoon Tea & Sandwiches after the game . A big thank you to Kim for providing a delicious cake & to Mel for the chocolate cookies.
My Lady Captains Away Break came next at the Windmill Village Golf Hotel & Spa, Coventry. It didn’t get off to a very good start due to Cathy, Janet, Mel & Jean getting stuck in traffic on the M6 delaying their arrival. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great, we had rain, hail & wind most of the time (which is not unusal for an Away Break) but we had a good day followed by a few drinks and a very enjoyable meal in the evening. On Saturday the weather was a lot better with only the occasional shower but it didn't stop us all enjoying another day & evening which ended with the presentation of prizes and a good game of “Who am I” Although our numbers were small I think I can say that we all had a great time. A big thank you Ladies for the lovely Rose Head Cover you gave me, it will always reminder to me of our weekend there.
The next event was the Past Captains Presidents Day at Arscott on 17th May . Out of a field of 118 Ladies I came 1st with 36 points, Kim 2nd with 34 pts & Sally 8th with 32pts. A good day for the Worfield Ladies again.
23rd May saw our Ladies Friendly at Cleobury Mortimer in lovely sunshine for a change. Worfield won 2 and 1. Unfortunately Val & I lost but well done to the rest of the team.
We had our usual Mixed Closed competition on Bank Holiday Monday with 8 Pairs entering . The winning scores were very close, with only 1-point difference, and in 1st place were Val & Mel, Sally & Stu Corbett 2nd & Bel B & Keith Bowler 3rd. As usual with such good Company the day was a great success.
Val went to the Area Medal Finals Competition which was held at Wollaton Park Golf Course, Nottingham on Sunday 29th May. Although she said she didn’t play as well as she can, she still managed to finish inside the top 50%, so well done Val
